The Importance of Early Planning

One practical but often overlooked benefit of beginning your estate planning sooner than later is the legitimacy that it can lend to your final documented wishes.

Exploitation of elderly individuals, whether by family or otherwise, has become common enough that many view estate plans made late in life with suspicion.  This can often lead to costly and divisive disputes within your family, especially if not everyone is treated equally in your plan.

However, if you start your planning younger in life, that plan and the future amendments can instead show that you have carefully considered and documented your wishes over the years and help reduce the suspicion that may otherwise surround a plan started later in life.

Estate plans do not necessarily need to be complicated and can evolve with your needs over time (see here).  Establishing a relationship with a trusted team of advisors, including a Florida estate planning attorney, is beneficial at any stage of your life.
